Bowls gets R12 million sponsorship
Bowls in South Africa received a huge fillip yesterday (Sat) with the announcement by the Warwick Private Wealth - The Private Wealth People - that they are to sponsor the game in a four-year, R12 million deal.
Warwick becomes the title sponsor of the country's three premier national bowls events, the SA Masters and the two SA national championships.
Ian Kilbride CEO of Warwick said yesterday his company was proud to become the national sponsor of bowls as it had been a grassroots supporter of the game for the past six years.
"We have been actively involved in bowls for a long while and felt the need to extend our focus by taking in the national events," he added.
Kilkbride said that of the R3 million each year, from the next four (2009 to 2012), about R2,2 million would go to bowls clubs in various packages and that the company also intended to get more involved at club and district level.
The news of the sponsorship has come as a godsend to Bowls South Africa who only a fortnight ago had their previous nationals' sponsorship discontinued as the company doing so would be focusing more on its international golf interests.
